What This Is
Harriet Tubman: Love Slave is a rap-poetic musical exploring the emotionally complex and rarely told truth of Harriet Tubman's early marriage to John Tubman. Before she became an icon of liberation, she was a young Black woman navigating love, betrayal, and survival under enslavement. This workshop showing offers audiences a raw, intimate look at the woman behind the legend.

Artist Statement
This story is my attempt to restore Harriet Tubman’s humanity before history crowned her a myth. Harriet’s marriage was complicated, painful, and tender — and it shaped the fire she carried into her abolitionist work. By reframing her as a young woman in love, not only a hero in hindsight, we honor the fullness of her lived experience and invite audiences to see freedom as something deeply personal. - Terrell M.
